Egypt Partners with Scatec on Solar-Battery Project

(MENAFN) Egypt on Sunday finalized an accord with Norwegian company Scatec to establish a vast renewable energy hub, which the firm described as the biggest integrated solar and battery storage facility on the African continent.

The initiative, named the "Energy Valley" project, will be situated in the Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZone). It comprises a 1.95-gigawatt solar station and a 3.9-gigawatt-hour battery storage system.

According to Scatec’s press release, the complex will be able to supply uninterrupted clean electricity around the clock, producing roughly 6,000 gigawatt-hours per year.

In a declaration issued by the Egyptian cabinet, Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly—who was present at the signing—stated that the project would play a crucial role in advancing Egypt’s renewable energy ambitions.

Additionally, Madbouly inaugurated nine fresh industrial ventures in the Sokhna Industrial Zone. These included two factories dedicated to manufacturing solar panel components, representing a combined investment of 190 million U.S. dollars.
